TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER (TMC)
The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world and consists of the world’s highest concentration of medical facilities and institutions. Located four miles southwest of Downtown Houston and less than two miles north of the Property, the TMC covers approximately 1,000 acres, and is currently one of the most dynamic areas of Houston. The complex hosts 13 highly esteemed hospitals, two medical schools, and four nursing schools, along with additional specialty institutions and schools for public health, dentistry, and pharmacy. The TMC has an employment base of over 73,600, including 10,000 doctors, and has an estimated annual indirect economic impact of $13.5 billion. More than 5.5 million patients visit the TMC annually from all over the world. The schools within the TMC boast a combined enrollment of more than 100,000 students.
TMC DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION
The TMC currently occupies 29 million square feet of real estate, and is quickly expanding to meet growing patient demand. According to the Greater Houston Partnership, the TMC will soon rival Downtown Houston for total office space. The TMC will grow to include 39.6 million square feet of medical and office space by 2014, through a capital infusion of $7.1 billion. Rice University spans 285 acres and is located less than two miles north of the Property, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center. Rice has a student enrollment of 5,195, including undergraduate and post-graduate students, and a faculty of 855. THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON
The University of Houston is located less than five miles east of the Property and covers 360 acres. Comprised of 3,003 faculty and 35,344 students, The University of Houston is the third largest college in the state of Texas and 23rd largest in the nation. The University of Houston offers 109 bachelor programs, 131 masters programs, and 51 doctoral programs.
TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
Texas Southern University makes up approximately 150 acres and is located less than four miles northeast of the Property. The University has 350 staff, 9,585 undergraduate students, and 2,050 post graduate students.
BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Baylor College of Medicine is situated less than two miles east of the Property, and is one of the world’s leaders for biomedical research. The school hosts approximately, 3,378 faculty and 1,211 students. According to the U.S. News and World Report, Baylor College of Medicine ranks 7th in the nation for primary care and 13th for research.
THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER
The University of Texas Health Science Center is less than two miles south of the Property and absorbs over three million square feet of the Texas Medical Center. More than 350 undergraduate students, 3,399 post graduate students, and 1,261 faculty members reside at the university.
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT (CBD)
Houston’s Central Business District (CBD) is less than five miles northeast of the Property. The CBD is 1.8 square miles and bordered by Interstate 10, Interstate 45, and US 59. The CBD employs 145,318 people, with some of its largest employers consisting of Shell, Harris County, Chevron, the City of Houston, JP Morgan Chase, Exxon Mobil, and Continental Airlines. TRANSPORTATION
METRORAIL
The Property land site is situated roughly one mile from the red line MetroRail station. The red line is a 7.5 mile light rail line, which currently travels between Downtown and Reliant Stadium, through the Texas Medical Center. The red line is the 11th most traveled light rail system in the nation, averaging 39,800 passengers per day.
RECREATION
MUSEUM DISTRICT AND HERMANN PARK
The Property is located just south of the Museum District. The Museum District is comprised of 18 museums, including the Houston Zoo and Hermann Park, one of Houston’s most popular recreational destinations.
